Originally an artistic community that boasted hosting the likes of Longfellow, the island's strategic location soon found it pressed into military service. Fort McKinley started its life during the Spanish-American War, and was used through World War II. Now, the Fort finds a new life with a marina, restaurants, and a golf course community.
